Talcher: Pressing for fulfillment of a four-point charter of demands, Talcher Surakshya Samiti today observed 12-hour bandh here affecting normal life in the town.
As part of the protest, the activists staged a Rail Roko at the railway station here disrupting train services. Besides, vehicles have stayed off the roads while shops and other business establishments have remained closed with the agitators staging picketing at various places in the town.
Their demands include fill up of vacant doctors’ posts in Government-run hospitals, necessary steps to ensure a pollution-free environment in the coal town and supply of safe drinking water to the residents.
Meanwhile, police personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order situation and avoid any unpleasant situations during the protest.
The agitators threatened that they would intensify their agitation in comings days if their demands are not taken into consideration at the earliest.
