2 dead, 2 others injured in separate incidents of road mishap in Odisha districts

Lahunipada/Kolabira: Two persons were killed on the spot and two more sustained grievous injuries in separate incidents of road mishap in Sundargarh and Jharsuguda districts of Odisha.

In the first incident, a motorcyclist died and the pillion rider was severely injured after the two-wheeler, on which they were travelling, had a head-on collision with a 14-wheeler truck at Lalsahi Chhak under Lahunipada police limits and Bonaigarh subdivision in Sundargarh.

Identities of the deceased and the injured have not been ascertained yet. However, the deceased belonged to Mankadachua village of Bhaludunguri in the district.

On being informed, a team of police reached the spot and rescued the injured with the help of some locals and rushed him to a nearby health facility for treatment. Lahunipada police seized the two vehicles and initiated a probe.

In the second incident, a youth was killed and another youth was critically injured after the motorcycle, on which they were travelling, was hit by a speeding car moving ahead in the same direction at Raghunathpali Chhak under Kolabira police limits in Jharsuguda.

According to an eyewitness, the motorcyclist and the car driver were together negotiating a turning on the road. After seeing a truck approaching from the opposite direction, the car driver suddenly turned the vehicle to the extreme left and hit the motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist lost control of the two-wheeler and again got hit by the passing truck leading to the mishap. However, the car driver fled from the spot soon after hitting the motorcycle, the eyewitness added.

The deceased motorcycle rider was identified as Rajesh Loha (36), who belonged to Rakhibahal village under Jamankira police limits in the district. The injured was identified as Jagat Ram Bhanja (27) from Deheridhipa village under Katarabaga police and Laida outpost limits of Sambalpur district.

Kolabira police seized the three vehicles and launched a probe.
