22 plots, several multi-storeyed buildings of OPHWC Deputy Manager traced so far

Bhubaneswar: The State Vigilance today traced a large number of immovable properties including multi-storeyed buildings and 22 plots being owned by a Deputy Manager working with the Odisha Police Housing & Welfare Corporation (OPHWC).

Based on allegations of amassing assets disproportionate to the known sources of income of the OPHWC Deputy Manager, Pratap Kumar Samal, the Vigilance teams conducted simultaneous searches at nine places associated with the official.

As many as 10 teams of Odisha Vigilance led by an Additional SP raided the nine places of Samal on the strength of search warrants issued by the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.

The searches were conducted at a triple-storeyed building over Plot No.N/6-416, IRC Village, Bhubaneswar; six storeyed building located opposite of Maa Bhagabati temple, Jayadev Vihar, Bhubaneswar; single storeyed building over Plot No.3/605, Khandagiri, Bhubaneswar; flat No.202 second floor of Narendra Villa, Jayadev Vihar, Bhubaneswar; three storeyed apartment namely Ananya Towers at Balisahi, Basudevpur, Bhadrak; temporary residence of Samal’s associate at Ananya Towers, Basudevpur, Bhadrak; house at native village Haripur, Simulia, Balasore; his relative’s house at Haripur, Simulia, Balasore, and office room at OPHWC, Bhubaneswar.

During the house search so far, the Vigilance team unearthed one five-storeyed building over Khata No.594, Plot No.991 at Gothapatna, Bhubaneswar with total built up area 20,350 Sqft. worth Rs 3,89,60,000, one four-storeyed building over Plot No.N/6-235, IRC Village, Bhubaneswar, 25 other immovable properties worth crores in the name of Samal and his spouse.

Samal owns 17 Plots, one Flat and one building in Bhubaneswar and Khordha, four plots and one (G+3) building at Basudevpur, Bhadrak and one double-storeyed market complex at Betada, Balasore, and cash of Rs 38,12,900.

Vigilance official sources said the Technical Wing is carrying out evaluation of the buildings of Samal and his family members.

The searches are on and Samal is being questioned on the property recoveries and seizures made, the Vigilance official sources added.
