Bhubaneswar: Odisha has so far reported 212 cases of Black Fungus or Mucormycosis and 29 of them have succumbed to the serious fungal infection, informed Health and Family Welfare Department (H &FW) today.

The department further informed that 109 out of the total infectees are undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the state while 68 patients have recovered from the disease.

The first Black Fungus case in the state was confirmed by the Government on May 10. Till July first week, the state had 130 cases of Black Fungus and  20 deaths due to the fungal infections.

Earlier, Director of Public Health Niranjan Mishra had stated that situation in the state is not critical in comparison to other states with very few number of cases being reported in the state.
