2nd phase COVID vaccination begins in Odisha; Top cops, bureaucrats take jab

DGP Abhay assures full cooperation to Govt from the police department to make the immunization drive a success.

Bhubaneswar: As the second phase of COVID-19 vaccination began today, police personnel, Collectors and other frontline workers of various Government departments are being administered with the vaccine across the state.

Odisha DGP Abhay and Twin City Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi received the vaccine shot at Indoor Stadium in Cuttack. After taking the jab, DGP Abhay thanked the Centre and the state Government for treating police personnel as frontline workers and including them in the vaccine beneficiaries’ list on priority basis.

The senior cop assured full cooperation to the Government from the police department to make the immunization drive a success. He also thanked all cops, including Constables and Havildars for discharging the COVID-19 duty in the frontline dedicatedly. He also appealed all the people of the state to cooperate with the Government and come forward to get vaccinated whenever they get chance.

The Government has released the vaccine for us after proper trial.  There is no need to panic . Come forward and take the vaccine.

Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi said, “There is no point of getting scared of the vaccine. Crores of people have already received the vaccine shot. If we don’t take the vaccine and neglect now, the virus may mutate in the future with different symptoms and these vaccines might not work then.”

Among others, Ganjam Collector  Vijay Amruta Kulange and Additional Police Commissioner Rekha Lohani  also took the vaccine shot today.

Worth mentioning, a database of 1,92, 437 officials and staff of three departments- Home, Housing and Urban Development and Revenue-  has been prepared for initial vaccination in the second phase. It is targeted to vaccinate all the beneficiaries in three weeks, Health Director and state Vaccine In-charge Bijay Panigrahi had informed earlier.

While  first dose of the first phase vaccination will complete on February 10, vaccination of the second dose will begin on February 15, he had said.
