3 dead, 5 more critically injured as speeding auto-rickshaw rams into stationary truck

Sambalpur: In a tragic road mishap, three persons were killed on the spot and five others sustained grievous injuries today after an auto-rickshaw in which they were travelling hit a stationary truck from behind near Sasan toll plaza and Pradhanpali Chhak in Sambalpur district.

Two of the deceased were identified as Poonam Bagh (13) and Benudhar Bagh (18). However, identity of the third deceased, who is a toddler, has not been ascertained yet.

Around ten persons were travelling in the auto-rickshaw. Driver of the ill-fated three-wheeler lost control of the vehicle leading to the fatal mishap. The auto-rickshaw (registration number- OD-31 G-1882) was on its way from Sasan side to Rengali side when it hit the truck (registration number- JH-10 BT-8677), an eyewitness said.

The five injured were rescued by some locals and rushed to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla for treatment.

Local police have registered a case in this connection and launched a probe.
