4 injured in pre-poll violence in Ganjam

Berhampur: Four villagers were injured in a panchayat poll-related violence in Khambarigaon gram panchayat under Jarada police limits in Ganjam district today afternoon.

A Sarpanch candidate along with some villagers of Babanpur village went to the Khambarigaon panchayat office to file nominations. While returning to the village, some miscreants attacked the Sarpanch candidate and his supporters near Pathara Kuanri village.

The villagers who were injured in the attack have been identified as Palina Nukaya, Korikani Bhima Rao, Shiba and Koteshu.

After receiving information, the SDPO and local police officials reached the spot and started an investigation.

The three-tier panchayat poll in the State will be held from February 16 in five phases.
