Bargarh: Congress candidate Pranaya Sahu today filed his nomination for the upcoming Bijepur bypoll in Odisha scheduled to be held on February 24.

Sahu, being accompanied by hundreds of Congress workers in a rally, reached the Padampur sub-collector office and filed the nomination in the presence of several party leaders including Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Prasad Harichandan.

On the other hand, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Ashok Panigrahi and Biju Janata Dal’s candidate Rita Sahu have already filed their nominations.

While today (February 6) was the last date for filing nominations for the bye-election, the nomination papers will be scrutinized tomorrow. The last date for withdrawal of candidatures has been fixed for February 9.

Notably, the Bijepur Assembly seat had fallen vacant following the death of Congress MLA Subal Sahu on August 22, last year.
