All services of Odisha Transport Dept to go online from New Year

Bhubaneswar: As Odisha Transport Department is set dispense all its services on complete online mode from New Year, you can now get your Driving License (DL) and other vehicle-related documents issued digitally from tomorrow.

Under the state Government’s 5T Initiative to ensure better service delivery to the public, the state Commerce and Transport Department will dispense all its services, including vehicle permit and issuance of documents like DL and RC from tomorrow.

“The decision has been taken in view of the frequent allegations of involvement of middlemen in the process. Though participation of middlemen has come down significantly, all works of the department will go paperless with effective from tomorrow to make the process completely free from middlemen,” said Commerce and Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera here today.

The department had earlier informed that it will develop a portal for the public, wherein PDF copy of the said documents can be downloaded by the citizens at their convenience.

“The State Government in exercise of the powers conferred by section 211A of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and in pursuance sub rule(2) of rule-171 of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989 do hereby dispense with the issue of smart card and paper based RC, DL & other vehicle related documents with effect from 1st January, 2022 and the documents will be issued through Digitally Signed Certificate or through e-Signature as specified under the provisions of Information Technology Act, 2000(21 of 2000,” the department had said in an official notification issued last month.
