Nayagarh, Feb 22:

In a huge achievement for Ama Odisha party led by former MP Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, it opened an account in the Odisha Panchayat polls by winning a Zilla Parishad zone under Khandapada block in Nayagarh district.

Ama Odisha candidate Rameswar Satapathy won Zilla Parishad zone 6 defeating BJD’s Amit Kumar Moharana in the fifth phase of three-tier rural polls in Odisha yesterday.

Reacting to Ama Odisha party’s achievement, the party president Soumya Ranjan Patnaik said, “The party laid the foundation stone for the upcoming Assembly elections by winning one zone of Zilla Parishad in the panchayat polls”.

Today’s poll results have destroyed the ego of Naveen-led government. It proved that amid BJP current across the state, there was no impact in Khandapada, he added.

The fifth phase polls were conducted for zone 5, 6, 7 of Khandapada block and 18, 19 and 20 under Bhapur block in Nayagarh district. However, the Ama Odisha party candidates lost the Zilla Parishad zones 5, 7, 18, 19 and 20 to their close rivals with fewer margins of votes in the final phase of the elections.

The party’s Archana Dash was defeated from BJD candidate Baijayantimala Mohanty in zone 5. BJD’s Bishnupriya Behera won zone 7 of Zilla Parishad defeating Ama Odisha party’s Gitanjali Das.

Similarly, party’s Namita Mallick and Bijaylaxmi Nayak lost the polls to the BJD candidates Gitanjali Sethy and Damayanti Khatei in zone 18 and 19 respectively.
