Shocking audio clip: Odisha cop demands bribe for arresting one who absconded impregnating woman

Boudh: With the number of cases of rape and harassment against women increasing in Odisha, one would expect police to be vigilant in order to curb such instances. However, a shocking incident has come to fore in Boudh district as a police official demanded bribe from a woman to arrest a youth who went absconding after allegedly impregnating her.

According to reports, the victim was staying at her brother-in-law’s house at Sulia village in Kantamal area of the district. The accused, identified as Bablu Sahu hailing from Deogarh, was also staying in the same village at her sister’s house.

He developed physical relation with the woman promising her to marry her. However, on knowing that she is pregnant, he went absconding.

“He kept physical relation with me on the pretext of marriage,” the victim said.

A case has been registered into the incident after she lodged a complaint with Kantamal police. But shockingly, a police official demanded bribe from the woman’s brother to arrest the accused youth.

“My sister is now nine months-pregnant. We have filed an FIR but the police officials are not paying any heed. They are instead demanding bribe of Rs 4,000 to arrest the accused,” said brother of the victim.
