Balaji Jayanti 2021 Date, Rituals, Significance and all you need to know

Balaji Jayanti commemorates the birth anniversary of Lord Balaji. It is observed on the ‘Ashtami’ tithi of the ‘Krishna Paksha’ during the month of ‘Margashirsha’ in the Hindu lunar calendar.

Devotees visit the Tirupati Balaji Temple and offer prayers on this occasion.

Rituals: Devotees wake up early in the morning and take bath. They perform the ‘Angapradakshina’ of the temple and worship Lord Balaji.

On the occasion, Maha Aarti is performed at the Tirupati Balaji Temple in the evening. Prasad is distributed among the devotees at the end of all the ceremonies.

Devotees also worship Lord Balaji at their homes by offering kumkum and garlands to the image or idol of Lord Balaji.

Chanting Vedic mantras like ‘Om Namo Narayana’ on this day is considered to be highly rewarding.

There is also a tradition of offering hair to Lord Balaji in some communities.

Significance: It is believed that by worshipping Lord Balaji, one gets relief from fears and achieves never-ending happiness and success.

A person who performs Lord Balaji puja with dedication also attains ‘moksha’ or salvation.
