Bhubaneswar/Balasore: With a CBI inquiry into the horrific 3-train accident that took place on June 2 evening near Bahanaga Bazaar railway station of Odisha’s Balasore district underway, no trains passing through would halt at the station for the time being to facilitate the probe.

This was informed today by the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of South Eastern Railway (SER) Aditya Kumar Chaudhary.

Relay rooms of Bahanaga Bazaar railway station have been closed for the time being. Hence, no train would stop at the station until further orders. The probe team earlier collected evidence from the relay room. The CBI team is trying to find out probable cause, if any, that led to the tragic mishap.

“The relay rooms, panels, data loggers, and equipment are part of the investigation. The CBI team has been working discretely at different locations and as soon as we get clearance from the team, we will allow the trains passing on this route to halt at Bahanaga Bazaar railway station,” CPRO Chaudhary said.

It is pertinent to mention, according to official sources, the death toll stands at 288, making it the most disastrous train accident in the State. The total number of injured is 920, of which 169 are grievously injured, 372 had sustained simple injuries in the fatal mishap and 379 persons were discharged after they were given initial treatments.
