Bhubaneswar, Mar 6:

The Odisha unit of BJP today accused the BJD government in the state of using Bharat Nirman sevaks to bolster its electoral prospects, sacrificing all scruples, principles and constitutional norms.

“Naveen Patnaik has established a new paradigm on how a party can the misutilize government treasury and the administration to bolster its electoral prospects. Bharat Nirman sevaks, who are voluntary workers, too have been used by Naveen Patnaik for electoral purpose. Bureaucrats too are not reluctant to approve this unconstitutional act,” alleged BJP leader Sameer Mohanty.

The BJP has also informed the Election Commission of India asking for action in this regard.

Mohanty said district collectors have been instructed to utilize these sevaks to pull more and more people to the booths. In the name of persuading people to cast their votes, sevaks have been trained to highlight achievements and schemes of the Naveen government, he added.

“BJD is distributing a kit containing an EVM machine, a dossier prepared by the ministry of Information and Broadcasting named ‘Aaina’ and materials by the GA department concerning the right to public service act. Naveen has framed this ulterior design to counter the influence of Modi. District collectors have been given the responsibility to successfully execute this program,” said Mohanty.

The BJP leader also alleged that a person who calls himself a student of Oxford and an IAS officer in charge of ticket distribution of BJD and known as CM’s confidante are acting as the bridge between the government machinery, the collector  and Third Floor (the Chief Minister’s office).
