BJP observes Mayurbhanj bandh over power outage during President’s speech

Baripada: The BJP and the Mayurbhanj Nagarika Manch are today observing a 12-hour dawn-to-dusk bandh in the district over the power outage during President Droupadi Murmu’s speech at the Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University here earlier this month.

The agitators are protesting the state government’s alleged inaction against the District Collector, SP, and Vice Chancellor of the university.

While shops, business establishments and educational institutions remained closed in view of the bandh, vehicular movement was severely affected as BJP workers staged road blockade at various places, including NH-18 and NH-49 in the district.

Kandra Soren, district president of BJP, blamed the state government for the mismanagement during the President’s event. He demanded stringent action against the Collector, SP and Vice Chancellor of the university.

“The state government continues to remain silent on the matter and is yet to take any disciplinary action against the erring officers,” he said.
