The party in a statement issued to the press on Sunday said Steel and Mines minister Rajnikant Singh’s act was a clear example of how the BJD uses government machinery to its benefit during elections. It said the minister had openly used is government office in flagrant violation of the model code of conduct despite of the State Election Commissioner’s directives.

“The fax message to the Angul district collector was sent from the minister’s government office. If the receiver of the fax message has been punished why the minister being the sender has been spared” said the statement.

“When its being told that the Angul district collector has been transferred on the basis of recommendations of the State Election Commission, why the minister has not been held responsible by the commission”, the statement added.

The party further wanted to know as to why the government was protecting the minister instead of  initiating action against him.
