Centre places fresh orders for 44 cr doses of Covid -19 vaccine

New Delhi: A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced changes in the guidelines of the National Covid Vaccination Programme, the Union Health Ministry placed fresh orders for additional doses of Covid vaccine from manufacturers in the country.

As per a statement issued by the Ministry, an order for purchase of 25 crore doses of Covishield was placed with Serum Institute of India and another one for purchase of 19 crore doses of Covaxin from Bharat Biotech.

The Ministry further stated these additional 44 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines will be available till December 2021.

The Ministry released 30% of the advance for procurement of both the Covid Vaccines to Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister announced all citizens above 18 years of age can receive the Covid-19 vaccine doses free of cost at Government health facilities. The decision has been taken to further universalize the countrywide vaccination drive.
