Child-friendly police stations to come up in Odisha soon

Bhubaneswar: With an aim to reduce mental pressure on children visiting police stations and create conducive atmosphere for them, the Odisha government today decided to set up child-friendly police stations.

The decision has been taken after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik directed the officials to establish 34 child-friendly police stations across the State. At present, there are 34 police districts in Odisha and the special police stations will come up in each police district.

It has been noticed that children come under the purview of law on different occasions. Also, some others visit police stations to seek help. Keeping this in view, the Chief Minister felt the need for suitable atmosphere for children at police stations, stated a release issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

As per the decision, the child-friendly police stations will have special facilities for children. Special logos, posters will be put up at these police stations.

Posters mentioning about child rights and Do’s and Don’ts for police personnel will be put up at these police stations, the CMO release added.

Name and contact details of the Child Welfare Officer and other related information will be displayed in another plaque at the child friendly police stations.

Also, there will be facility for a small library for kids where books, magazines and newspapers can be available.

These police stations will have bed, chair, table, toys and first aid kits for children.

It has been decided to create attractive and informative wall paintings on the premises of the police stations, the CMO release mentioned.
