Chit fund scam: CBI questions Odisha Jan Morcha leader

As part of its ongoing investigation into the mega chit fund scam in the state, the CBI today questioned Odisha Jan Morcha (OJM) secretary general Jajneswar Babu.

According to sources in the CBI, Babu was being questioned about the money taken as loans and advances by a sugar mill, in which he is a key functionary, from the tainted AT group.

Babu’s house in Bolangir, it may be noted, had earlier been raided in this connection last month.

Curiously, Babu reached the CBIi office here in an auto rickshaw in an obvious bid to avoid the prying eyes of the television cameras. But the charade went in vain as cameras did catch him going into the CBI office.

Babu had denied the allegations and had welcomed the CBI probe. He had claimed that he was the one, who had been demanding a CBI probe into the issue and hoped that the big fish behind the scam would be netted by the CBI.
