Cold wave grips Odisha; Mercury to drop further by 5-6°C

Bhubaneswar: Odisha continues to reel under intense cold wave conditions as mercury dropped below 10 degree Celsius at several stations in the state, last night.

Phulbani was the coldest place in the state with a minimum temperature of 3.6°C, followed by Daringbadi (4.5).

Other places where mercury plummeted below 10 degree Celsius-mark were Chandabali (9.7), Angul (8.0), Jharsuguda (6.0), Keonjhar (6.4), Sambalpur (8.6), Sundargarh (6.0), Hirakud (8.4), Talcher (9.0), Bhawanipatna (6.8), Balangir (8.5), Koraput (7.0), Titlagarh (6.5 ), Sonepur (6.4), Nayagarh (9.0) and Boudh (8.0).

The cold wave conditions may continue to throw life out of gear across the state as the Regional Meteorological Centre here has forecasted that minimum temperature will be below normal by 5-6°C over the districts of interior Odisha and by 4-5°C over the districts of coastal Odisha during the next 3 days.

Isolated cold wave conditions very likely to prevail over the districts of Angul, Sonepur, Boudh, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Cuttack and Khordha today, it forecasted.

Isolated cold day condition very likely to prevail over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Kandhamal, it added.
