COVID-19 pandemic: 4-day shutdown ordered in BeMC area in Odisha

Berhampur: In view of a spurt in COVID-19 cases in Ganjam district in last one week, the district administration today ordered a complete shutdown in Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) area for four days starting from June 27.

Ganjam District Collector Vijay A Kulange said after migrant returnees returned, more COVID-19 cases have been detected in the district. Especially the number of positive cases has increased in BeMC area in recent past, he informed.

To carry out active contact tracing, symptom checking, isolation and check the home quarantine status the district administration has to take strict action. For this purpose, a total of 70 health teams have been formed. They will undertake door to door survey and examine health conditions of residents, the Collector said.

The district administration decided to impose a shutdown from June 27 to 30 to carry out the door to door survey, he said.

However, emergency medical service and milk delivery have been kept out of the shutdown.

So far, a total of 1,088 COVID-19 positive cases have been detected in Ganjam district.
