Covid cases remain above 100-mark, one death reported from Odisha’s Sundargarh

Bhubaneswar/Rourkela: Just when the horrors of the pandemic were beginning to fade from public memory, rising cases of Covid-19 have once again sparked panic among people in Odisha with figures crossing the 100-mark and one death recently being reported from Rourkela in Sundargarh district.

As per the latest official data, 102 Covid positive cases (0-18 years) were recorded from 4257 new samples tested. At present, there are 629 active cases in the State with 29 new recoveries. Of 3,47,57,116 cumulative samples tested, 13,37,657 have tested positive so far with total 13,27,769 recoveries and 9,206 deaths.  While there have been no new fatalities within the last 24 hours, one death was reported from Sundargarh district.

The deceased was identified as Pradip Pal (39), a resident of sector 6 in Rourkela. As per reports, Pradip had developed flu-like symptoms since last month. As his cold did not subside due to pneumonia, he got himself tested for Covid-19 at Ispat General Hospital (IGH) on March 31. As his reports came positive, he was shifted to the Covid ward of Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) where he succumbed during treatment last Wednesday. Following his death, the chief district medical officer had directed the RGH authorities to submit a report on the exact cause of his death.

While the Health department has ruled out any reason to panic, Pradip’s death has once again sparked panic as Covid cases continue to increase. People, however, have been cautioned to maintain standard safety protocol like wearing masks and getting tested if they show flu-like symptoms.
