Cyclone Jawad: Odisha cancels leaves of all Govt officials, employees

Bhubaneswar: As part of preparatory measures for the cyclonic storm Jawad, Odisha Government today cancelled leaves of all Government employees.

Special Relief Commission (SRC) Pradeep Jena said, in view of the impending cyclonic storm over Bay of Bengal (BoB), the state Government canceled the weekly holiday (Sunday i.e December 5). All officials and employees have been directed to reach their respective headquarters immediately.

“Those already on have also been asked to return and resume their duty as soon as possible,” he said.

The Deep Depression over southeast BoB has intensified into a cyclonic storm.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said  currently, the cyclonic storm lay centered over westcentral and adjoining south BoB is about 420 km off south-southeast Vishakhapatnam, 650 km off south-southeast of Paradip and 530 km off south-southeast of Gopalpur.

As per IMD forecast, the direction of the cyclonic storm will change after December 4 evening and move north-northeastward along Odisha coast and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh coast. It will hit Puri by December 5 noon and continue to move north-northeastward along Odisha coast. It will gradually weaken after touching Puri and move towards West Bengal coast.
