Daya river water not fit for drinking, farming: Odisha Minister

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Revenue Minister Maheswar Mohanty today said water of Daya river on the outskirts of capital city Bhubaneswar has become polluted and neither consumable for drinking nor for farming.

The minister said water from Gangua drain here is being released to the river leading to pollution of the water body.

A review meeting over the matter was held today where it was decided to set up six sewage treatment plants here at a cost of Rs 8 crore.

While work for two sewage treatment plants has been completed, those of other four would finish within the next two years.

Another meeting is scheduled to be held in the coming time over the number of houses required to be evicted for the project.

It has also been directed to examine the water of Bhargavi, Luna and Ratnachira rivers.
