Diarrhoea spreads to one more Odisha district with 2 deaths

Jharsuguda: After Rayagada, Gajapati and Nuapada districts, diarrhoea has spread its wings to Jharsuguda district claiming two lives in past two days.

The deceased persons have been identified as Akur Pradhan (40) and his father Sriprasad Pradhan (65) of Debadihi village in Jharsuguda district.

The district administration is yet to confirm the diarrhoea deaths in the district.

According to reports, Akur Pradhan died on Thursday night while undergoing treatment for diarrhoea. After performing last rites of the son, father Sriprasad Pradhan was also affected by the water-borne disease. He succumbed on Friday night.

Sources said that more than 10 persons at Litipada, Pannapada and Baidapada villages have been infected with diarrhoea, of which five patients have been admited to the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.

However, no medical team is yet to reach the diarrhoea affected villages in the district.

With the increase in diarrhoea cases in 3 districts — Rayagada, Nuapada and Gajapati — the State Government has issued an advisory to tackle the situation.

So far, the water-borne diseases have claimed 12 lives (10 deaths due to cholera) in these above districts. While Kashipur Block in Rayagada district has reported the highest deaths of 10 in a past few weeks, one each died of diarrhoea in Komana and Mohana blocks in Nuapada and Gajapati districts respectively.
