Police had on May 29 issued non-bailable warrants (NBW) against Mishra and 9 other gang members and declared them as absconders.

Mishra, a teacher by profession, is allegedly involved in several cases of land grabbing. Earlier this month, the district administration had demolished a building illegally constructed by Mishra on a government school land at Shantipada here.

“I have surrendered at the Sadar police station. Most of the people in Balangir know that i am an honest person. I was never involved in grabbing government land and selling them to others. I have no relation with Timan. Apprehending threat to my life, I had absconded,” said Mishra.

“Khirod Mishra surrendered before the Sadar police station today. We will interrogate him in connection with several cases lodged against him,” said Balangir SP Ashish Kumar Singh.
