Double-decker buses on Odisha capital-Visakhapatnam route soon

Bhubaneswar: The Centre has planned introduction of double-decker luxury buses on 75 long distance inter-city routes which includes Vishakhapatnam-Bhubaneswar.

Chairing a meeting of the Transport Development Council (TDC) in Vadodara yesterday, Union Road Transport & Highways minister Nitin Gadkari reached out to state transport ministers calling for reforms in public transport.

The Centre is considering to provide financial assistance to state road transport undertakings to start such mode of transport, reports said, adding that the double-decker buses will be fully air-conditioned.

The move comes in view of growing traffic congestion on prime routes of the country.

Gadkari also asked state transport ministers for removal of checkposts for seamless movement of goods and passenger vehicles and adoption of digital payment solutions.
