Earth caves in Odisha’s Cuttack; two dead, one critically injured

Cuttack: The earth dug for construction of a bridge’s sidewall in Cuttack city caved in this evening due to which two persons died while another one sustained critical injuries. Many are feared to be still trapped under the debris.

Two critically injured died while undergoing treatment at the SCB Hospital and Medical College. Another injured one is fighting for his life at the hospital.

Eyewitnesses said the under-construction side wall of the bridge connecting Chhatra Bazaar to Malgodown collapsed. Following this, three persons who were trapped under the debris have been rescued by the personnel of ODARF and sent to the SCB Medical College and Hospital.

As many are feared trapped under the debris, the ODRAF team with the help of poclain machines has launched a rescue operation.

Cuttack District Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani, who reached the spot, said an inquiry will be launched and action will be taken against those who will be found responsible behind the mishap.

Cuttack Municipal Corporation Commissioner Ananya Das and Cuttack DCP Prateek Singh also reached the spot and have been monitoring the rescue operation.

Till the filing of this report, the rescue operation by ODRAF was underway.
