Engineering student falls to death while evading police patrolling team

Dhenkanal: An engineering student died after falling into an abandoned well while evading a police patrolling team on Tuesday evening in Pingua village of Dhenkanal district. The deceased, Bibhu Chandra Barik aged 20 was a resident of Pingua village and studying at Synergy Engineering College.

Bibhu Chandra along with friends was watching videos in a mobile phone while sitting on a culvert on Pingua-Manjuripada road.

As the state-wide lockdown restriction has been in force, the Nihalprasad Police, who were patrolling in the area, spotted Bibhu Chandra and his friends watching the mobile phone together during evening hours. The police personnel warned them against sitting closely during the Covid lockdown.

As soon as the police patrolling team left the spot and moved towards Manjuripada, Bibhu Chandra and his friends again sat together and watched the mobile phone. Few minutes later when a vehicle came from Manjuripada side, Bibhu Chandra and his friends suspected it to be a police vehicle in the darkness and dispersed in different directions.

Bibhu Chandra ran towards a roadside farmland and fell into an abandoned well.

As the youth did not return home after long hours, his family members made a frantic search. Suspecting him falling into the well, Bibhu Chandra’s family members informed the Fire personnel.

Later the Fire personnel recovered the youth’s body from the well.
