Former Odisha minister Anand Acharya passes away

Former Odisha minister Anand Acharya passed away at the Appollo Hospital in Bhubaneswar this afternoon. He was 77.

Anand AcharyaBorn on February 2, 1938 at Bargarh, Anand was the son of Late Padmashree Krutartha Acharya.

He was a three-time MLA from Bargarh Assembly constituency. He was elected as a BJD candidate in 1998, 2000 and 2004 and was a minister from 2000-2004.

He was the president of Sambalpur District Central Cooperative Bank during 1994-96, president of Sambalpuri Bastralaya Handloom Cooperative Societies Ltd from 1979 to 1981 and president of Odisha Weavers` Cooperative Spinning Mills Ltd from 1994 to 1996.

Several BJD leaders including chief minister Naveen Patnaik, Excise and Cooperation minister Damodar Rout, Revenue and Disaster Management minister Bijayshree Routray, Steel and Mines minister Prafulla Mallick, Food Supply and Consumer Welfare minister Sanjay Dasburma, Panchayati Raj and Law minister Arun Sahu, Tourism and Culture minister Ashok Panda, Health and Family Welfare and I&PR minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak and Textiles and Handloom minister Snehangini Chhuria have deeply condoled the death of Acharya.

Besides, senior BJP leader and Union Petroleum and Natural Gas minister Dharmendra Pradhan has also expressed profound grief on the sad demise of Acharya.
