Bhubaneswar, Apr 6:

Santosh Nayak, a 60-year-old shopkeeper from Shaheed Nagar market in the Odisha capital, has chosen a noble mission for himself: to help poor patients of the state.

Nayak, who originally belongs to Matia in Kendrapara district, runs the shop to earn a living, but his real passion is in helping out the poor. He scans the newspapers to identify men who need help and reaches out to them.

While he was the only person contributing to this noble cause earlier, many other shopkeepers have now joined hands with him and donate Rs 100 every month for his charity work.  He also collects money from other donors against receipts to advance the cause as and when needed.

As if arranging financial assistance for the poor was not enough, he goes on to take personal care of their health to ensure a speedy recovery and does everything he can to keep their spirits up.

In the process, he is setting standards in his area for others to follow.
