Road communication at several places in south Odisha was disrupted today following heavy rains under the influence of a low pressure formed over the Bay of Bengal.
According to reports, 14 panchayats under Borigumma block in Jeypore sub division have been surrounded by floodwater while the approach road at Mundaguda was swept away due to flash floods.
Road communication between Nabarangpur and Koraput was disrupted due to overflowing of floodwater over Parli bridge at Jeypore.
In another incident, rainwater entered the classrooms of Podagada Kanyashram in Koraput after the boundary wall of the school collapsed due to heavy rains this afternoon.
Earlier in the day, locals rescued a class-II boy from a nullah at Nighamaniguda in Koraput after he was swept away by the floodwater.
The condition of the boy, admitted in the district headquarters hospital, was stated to be critical.
