Humanity prevails: Muslim youths carry Hindu Woman’s bier

Wearing their skull caps, the youths also helped the woman's sons with her last rites as most of her relatives did not participate in the funeral due to fear of COVID-19.

Bhubaneswar:  In a rare goodwill gesture, a few Muslim youths carried the bier of a Hindu woman, who happened to be their neighbour,  to a cremation ground in Indore of Madhya Pradesh amidst the COVID-19 lockdown.

The youths wearing their skull caps also helped the 65-year-old woman’s sons with her last rites as most of her relatives did not participate in the funeral due to fear of the deadly virus.

The woman died on Monday after a prolonged illness. She is survived by two sons, who could come home much after her death due to lockdown restrictions. Wearing masks, the Muslim youths made arrangements for the funeral and carried the elderly woman’s bier on their shoulders  around 2.5 kms away to the cremation ground.

A few photos ad videos of  the  act of generosity have gone viral on social media platforms. Senior Congress leader and former chief minister Kamal Nath applauded the gesture of the Muslim youths and said they have set an example in society.

The Muslim youths told news agency PTI that they considered it as their duty and knew the woman since their childhood.
