IIC suspended in Cuttack self-immolation case

Cuttack: Taking stringent action against IIC of Kishan Nagar Police Station in a self-immolation case, Odisha DGP today suspended the official with immediate effect.

Sasmita Rana, IIC of Kishan Nagar PS of Cuttack district, is placed under suspension with immediate effect for her negligence in duty, an official notification stated today.

During the period of suspension, the police official will remain under the disciplinary control of IG of Police, Central Range, Cuttack.

She will be allowed to draw the Special Allowance (SA) and Dearness Allowance (DA) as admissible under Rule 90 of Odisha Service Code, the notification made it clear.

The action was taken on basis of the recommendation by Cuttack Rural SP B Jugal Kishore following death of a complainant, who had self-immolated in front of the Kishan Nagar Police Station on June 23.

According to reports, Gunanidhi Bisoi of Sainparua under Ishani Brahmapur GP had set himself on fire in front of the Police Station citing police inaction in a case lodged by him against his nephew over property dispute.

The next day, he succumbed to burn injuries during treatment at a private hospital in Cuttack.

Following the incident, Cuttack Rural SP had written to Odisha DGP recommending action against the IIC of Kishan Nagar Police Station.
