Infant branded with hot iron rod in Odisha’s Keonjhar

Keonjhar: Despite improvement in medical science and technology, another incident of branding infant was reported from Odisha’s Keonjhar district, where the trend of barbaric act still continues.

The superstitious parents branded only a 25-day-old infant with hot iron rod to cure stomach ailments at Khabra village under Harichandanpur block yesterday.

The matter came to fore this morning after the baby was admitted to hospital after his condition deteriorated following branding.

With the incident, the number of infants branded with iron rod in the district was registered two just in two days. On Friday, a 7-year-old child was victim of the superstitious act. Total 8 such cases were reported in 45 days in the district.
