Jewellery, purse exhumed along with body belong to Mamita Meher: Family

Junagarh: In a fresh development in alleged murder case of Mamita Meher, her family members confirmed that the jewelries and a purse exhumed along with a body at an under-construction stadium of the Sunshine School, Mahaling, belong to the deceased schoolteacher.

Earlier in the morning, the police had recovered a body dumped underground near the private English medium school and found a chain, anklet and a purse from the body.

The excavation work was carried out to trace body of Mamita Meher, who had gone missing from the school since October 8.

Following recovery of the body, the police had informed Mamita Meher’s family to identify it. The family confirmed that Mamita had worn same jewelries on the fateful day.

Meanwhile, the manhunt operation has been launched to ascertain the hideout of Govind Sahu, President of the Sunshine Public School, Mahaling, and the prime accused in the Mamita Meher missing case, following his escape from police custody.

The Balangir Police has announced Rs 1 lakh cash reward for sharing information on absconder Govind Sahu.

Mamita Meher (24) of Jharni village under Turekela block of Odisha’s Balangir district was working as a teacher at the Sunshine English Medium School at Mahaling in Kalahandi district. Mamita also served as warden of the girls’ hostel of the school. She went missing on October 8.

Police had arrested Govind Sahu in connection with the missing case. Later, he allegedly escaped from police custody.
