Jharaphula Nayak death: Here’s why the girl had gone to Bhubaneswar from Mayurbhanj

Bhubaneswar: Ramadevi Women’s University student Jharaphula Nayak (21), who was found dead on roadside in Jajpur district, had gone to Bhubaneswar from her village Marundeipasi under Jashipur police limits in Mayurbhanj district to attend birthday function of daughter of her teacher, revealed deceased’s father Ramakant Nayak.

“She had gone to Bhubaneswar on January 24 to attend birthday function of Chakradhar Sir’s daughter. The event was held on January 25. On January 26 around 11 am, Chakradhar Sir dropped her at Jaydev Vihar square, where she boarded a private bus to return to the village. However, she alighted from the vehicle near Vani Vihar after complaining of stomach ache and informed me that she would board the next bus. Later around 3 pm, she told me that she stayed at her friend’s house due to the ailment. However, she didn’t answer any phone call during the whole night,” said Ramakant, adding that Chakradhar Sir was Jharaphula’s local guardian in Bhubaneswar.

Ramakant has alleged the involvement of a youth in the case claiming that he was her daughter’s lover.

“One Rakesh Swain, who was engaged in pipeline work in our village, developed an affair with my daughter during the period when she had returned home from the university due to the lockdown. Both were having conversation with each other through WhatsApp and video call,” he said.

Body of Jharaphula Nayak was found under mysterious circumstances at Mulapala under Kuakhia police limits in Jajpur district on January 27. As per eyewitnesses, two youths brought the body on a scooter and dumped it on roadside before fleeing the spot with the vehicle. A bag was found near the body.

The incident of the body being dumped by the two youths has been captured on CCTV camera. Police have identified the two accused, informed Jajpur SP today. The accused duo will be arrested soon, the police official said.
