Kid dies after being run over by speeding truck in Odisha’s Nabarangpur; locals block road

Nabarangpur: A five-year-old boy was killed on the spot today in the morning as a speeding goods-laden truck ran over him while the kid was crossing a road connecting Raipur along with his parents at Deobharandi village under Raighar block in Nabarangpur district.

The deceased kid was identified as Gourab Kumar from neighbouring Chhattisgarh.

According to sources, the kid had come to Deobharandi village with his parents. The trio was crossing the road when the truck ran over the kid leading to his death.

Irate locals staged a roadblock demanding adequate compensation to the next of the deceased’s kin. Vehicular movement was disrupted for hours following the incident. The agitation was withdrawn after a team of local police reached the spot and convinced the incensed villagers.

Police have seized the body and launched a probe into the fatal road mishap.

In an incident last night, two persons were killed after being hit by an unknown vehicle near a culvert at MV-96 on NH-326 under Kalimela police limits in Malkangiri district.

In another incident last night, a man was killed and three others sustained grievous injuries as a car in which they were travelling skidded off the road and rammed into a tree near a school in Dangabahal under Gaisilet police limits and Padampur subdivision in Bargarh district.

The trio was on their way back home from a nearby village, after witnessing a Jatra (theatre).
