Patkura: The body of martyred soldier Devi Prasanna Sutar, who died in an avalanche in the Ladakh sector of Jammu and Kashmir, was cremated today with full national honours at Jagdalpur under Patkura police limits of Kendrapara after his mortal remains reached the native village from Bhubaneswar.

Devi Prasanna had been staying in Jammu and Kashmir along with his wife and son. The 36-year-old civil engineer was in Indian military services and was the younger son of Narayan Sutar from Jagdalpur. His body reached Bhubaneswar Airport (BPIA) yesterday and was later taken to the village.

A pall of gloom descended on the village after the body reached Patkura tehsil. Hundreds of residents had the last glimpse of the martyred soldier. They also took part in the funeral procession.

Worth mentioning, Devi Prasanna was deployed in the Ladakh sector and a vehicle in which he was travelling got stranded on the road following an avalanche on June 30 at around 1 pm. The layers of snow were later removed by pressing a JCB machine into service. It was then that the mishap occurred leading to the untimely death.

Devi Prasanna was standing near the vehicle when another avalanche took place. He and the driver of the JCB got buried under a large heap of snow and both of them died on the spot.
