Leopard carcass recovered from jungle in Odisha’s Dhenkanal

While it is still not ascertained if the leopard died a natural death or was a victim of poaching, official sources said the exact reason will be established only after the post-mortem report arrives. 

Dhenkanal: Forest personnel recovered the carcass of a leopard from near Barihargadi village under Khajuriakata section of Hindol range in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district here today. Locals spotted the body of the big cat and informed the Forest department.

While it is still not ascertained if the leopard died a natural death or was a victim of poaching, official sources said the exact reason will be established only after the post-mortem report arrives.

Divisional Forest Officer Prakash Chand Gogineni also informed that naturally there is no movement of leopard in the region which indicates that it probably strayed from a nearby forest. “A team has reached the spot. The autopsy of the carcass will reveal if the animal was hunted by poachers or not. Investigation is underway,” he added.
