Lightning strikes claim lives of minor boy, sister in Odisha

Bahanaga (Balasore): At a time when the country has been celebrating ‘Raksha Bandhan’, a pall of gloom descended on the villagers of Barunsingh Mandagaon village under Khantapada police limits in Balasore district today. Death of a minor boy and her minor sister due to lightning strike in the village dissolved the happiness of the villagers in no time.

As per reports, Asha (12) visited the house of her cousin Sushant (15) to tie the Rakhi today afternoon. After performing the rituals of ‘Raksha Bandhan’, Sushant and Asha along with family members sat on the verandah of his house to enjoy their day.

In the meantime, lightning struck the house killing Asha and Sushant on the spot. Sushant’s elder sister, Rangalata and her husband were also critically injured in the incident.

Later with the help of locals, the family members admitted Rangalata and her husband to Khantapada hospital.

Police reached the spot and sent the bodies of the minor boy and his sister for post mortem.
