Love, sex and blackmail: Odisha jailor booked after girl’s complaint

Bhadrak: A jailor posted in Odisha’s Bhadrak district has landed in trouble after a girl lodged a police complaint accusing the official of blackmailing her with videos of their intimate moments, besides torturing her physically and mentally.

A case has been registered against Chinmaya Patra, the accused jailor, at Bhadrak Town police station under Sections 498A, 494, 495, 406, 417, and 506 of IPC.

As per the complaint, Patra, while working as Karanjia Jailor, befriended the girl on Facebook in 2017 when she was studying in a private engineering college in Balasore.

He later married her at a temple in Khiching area of Mayurbhanj district and kept her in his government quarters for two months. During the period, he recorded moments of their intimacy.

When the victim came to know that Patra had married a woman prior to her and has two children, she opposed it. The accused then threatened her not to disclose the matter to anyone and started blackmailing her with the recorded videos of their private moments, she alleged.

“The girl filed a complaint at Bhadrak Town police station against the jailor yesterday. A case has been registered and investigation into the matter is underway,” said Jalandhar Jali, SDPO, Bhadrak.
