CM directs collectors to protect paddy

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today directed district collectors of undivided Koraput, Balangir, Bargarh, Ganjam and Gajapati to take steps to protect paddy lying in mandis as well as harvested paddy in the fields from rains expected from November 27 onwards under the impact of cyclone Lehar, likely to make landfall on November 28 near Machillipatanam in Andhra Pradesh.

The chief minister, at a high level meeting convened to discuss likely impact of the very severe cyclonic storm Lehar at the state secretariat today also directed the district collectors to alert farmers in advance on the movement of Lehar.

This being the harvesting season, the cut paddy still lying in the fields, could be damaged if there is rainfall.
