‘Maha Shivratri’ 2022: ‘Mahadeepa’ lifted atop Lingaraj Temple in presence of sea of devotees

Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of auspicious ‘Maha Shivratri’ today, the ‘Mahadeepa’ was lifted atop Shri Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar this evening amid ‘Har Har Mahadev’ slogans and clanging of cymbals.

Servitors of Lingaraj Temple took out the ‘Mahadeepa’ in a procession from the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. One of them then holding the ‘Mahadeepa’ climbed the temple wall and lifted the holy torch at 10:20 PM.

Thousands of Lord Shiva devotes lit earthen diyas and sat on premises of the well-illuminated temple decked up with flowers.

‘Maha Shivratri’ is celebrated on the Chaturdashi Tithi of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Falgun.

Devotees thronged Shiva temples across the State including Kapilash Temple and Dhabaleswar Temple to observe ‘Maha Shivratri’ and worship the Lord Shiva.

Devotees take second bath in the evening before performing the puja of Lord Shiva. The puja should be done during night and they should break the fast next day after taking bath.
