Man cheated of ‘gold conch’ in Odisha’s Koraput, 2 tricksters held

Koraput: A man was allegedly cheated of a look-like gold conch under Sadar police limits in Koraput district. Police have arrested two persons in this connection, today.

The accused were identified as Chitrasen Khosla (38), son of Ram Chandra Khosla of Litimaliguda village under Sadar police limits of Koraput, and Manas Khora (22) alias Chandal, son of Giridhar Khora from Bhaliaguda village under B Singpur police limits of the district.

According to a police source, the victim man identified as Dhanapati Aralye (40), son of Narayana Aralye from Khadagput village under Nandapur police limits of Koraput lodged an FIR on March 8 stating that he previously came in contact with Chitrasen when he was conducting awareness programmes relating to cow safety and environment restoration in the district.

Allegedly, at a subsequent time, Chitrasen told Dhanapati that the conman had a gold conch and he would sell it at Rs 5 lakh, but the actual price of it was around Rs 4 crore in the open market.

Dhanapati along with his friend namely Saroj Khilla had given cash of Rs 4,35,000 to Chitrasen on August 19 last year and taken a conch made of look-like gold. The next day, the complainant got the conch tested by one goldsmith and came to know that it was not a gold conch and Chitrasen cheated him.

The victim had immediately gone to Chitrasen and asked the conman to return the money paid by him. However, Chitrasen then refused to return the money and threatened them with dire consequences in case they again asked him to refund the money, the FIR mentioned.

Acting on the FIR, Sadar PS IIC registered a case (No-77, dated 08.04.2024, U/s 420/506 of the IPC) and directed his subordinate staff to take up an investigation of the case.

During the investigation, it was ascertained that Chitrasen had pretended to be a journalist. He has already cheated several people by showing the conch but complaints were lodged against him.

“A detailed probe into the fraud case is underway,” the Sadar IIC expressed.
