Manish Anurag murder case: Constable dismissed from service

Bhubaneswar: A day after the arrest of Constable Prasanna Behera, Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Das dismissed him from the service.

Commissionerate Police sources said by exercising power under article 311(2)(b) of Constitution of India, competent authority i.e. DCP, Bhubaneswar has dismissed C/1634 Prasanna Kumar Behera from the Odisha Police with immediate effect.

The sources added five criminal cases have been pending against Behera. Besides, eight departmental inquiries are on against him.

Earlier, Behera was suspended on charges of running an illegal bar, where journalist son of Navin Das, Manish Anurag had last visited before his murder. Behera, who was the President of Havildar & Constable Association, was arrested yesterday for allegedly operating a bar without valid license, violating COVID-19 rules and hatching criminal conspiracy.

Hotel South City owner Pradyumna Jena and bar manager Souvik Jena were also held on charges of violating Covid protocols.

The Commissionerate Police had transferred Tamando Police Station IIC for the illegal operation of the bar.

During the Manish Anurag murder case probe it was found that the bar’s license had expired.
Manish Anurag was murdered following an altercation with his friends over payment of bill at the Hotel South City at Patrapada late on October 9. The next day, his body was found floating in a village pond at the locality.

In connection with the murder case, the police have arrested three accused persons — Amrit Biswal, Dinesh Mohapatra and Mrutyunjay Mishra — all friends of Manish Anurag, on charges of murder and destroying evidence.
