Mercury crosses 40 Degrees C at 27 places of Odisha; Bolangir, Bargarh hottest with 44.5

Bhubaneswar: Mercury is on the rise at many places in Odisha and IMD has warned of ‘heat wave’. Twenty-seven places of the State witnessed day temperatures above 40 Degrees Celsius today.

Both Bolangir and Bargarh recorded the highest day temperature at 44.5 Degrees Celsius, followed by Jharsuguda (44.4), Sonepur (44.3), Sambalpur (43.6), Boudh (43.5), Hirakud (43.1), Sundargarh (43.0), Bhawanipatna (43.0), Titilagarh (43.0), Angul (42.9), Deogarh (42.8), Bhubaneswar (42.6), Rourkela (42.5), Berhampur (42.5), Paralakhemundi (42.0), Dhenkanal (41.8), Baripada (41.6), Cuttack (41.6), Nayagarh (41.5), Talcher (41.4), Nuapada (41.4), Keonjhar (41.0), Kendrapara (41.0), Phulbani (41.0), Nabarangpur (40.5) and Malkangiri (40.5).

However, Jajpur, Chandbali and Chhatrapur recorded a maximum temperature of 40 Degrees Celsius.

Maximum (day) temperatures observed appreciable rise at one or two places over the districts of South Odisha, marked fall at one or two places over the districts of North Coastal Odisha, appreciably fall at a few places over the districts of North Coastal Odisha, at one or two places over the districts of North Interior Odisha and no large change at elsewhere over the districts of Odisha. They were markedly above normal at most places over the districts of Interior Odisha, appreciably above normal at one or two places over the districts of Odisha, above normal at a few places over the districts of Coastal Odisha and normal at a few places over the districts of Coastal Odisha.

No major change will be there in the Maximum (day) temperature during the next three days and a slight fall thereafter over the districts of Odisha. Maximum temperature is very likely to be above normal by 4 to 6oC at a few places over the districts of Odisha during next 3 days. Consequently, hot and discomfort weather is likely during next 3 days and people are advised to take precautionary measures (avoid heat exposure, keep cool and avoid dehydration) while going outside during day time between 1100 IST-1500 IST, a special bulletin of the IMD regional centre said.
