Mobile sex clippings go viral in Odisha’s Baleswar

Circulation of sex video clips involving local boys and girls through mobile phones has rattled both youngsters and their parents in Odisha’s district headquarters town of Baleswar.

Some mobile phone users are having at least three to four of these videos on their phones. What is more disturbing is that they are still receiving them on their handsets. While the guardians have expressed concern over the matter, police have said investigations are on.

“Obscene video clippings of mostly teenage local boys and girls are now circulating on mobile phones here. This is a big danger to the society. Parents as well as children need to be cautious. Police too has a role to play in controlling these activities. Police and guardians need to be on the alert; only then it can be contained,” said a senior citizen of the town.

“Boys who have such evil intentions first befriend a girl and then luer them into a sexual relationship and capture the act on camera on the sly. To avoid such situations, girls should control themselves, restrain themselves, maintain their self respect and should keep it in mind that such things are inappropriate before marriage,” said Soumyadarshini Sahu, a student.

“Parents can protect their children when they are inside the house. But when they go outside, parents can’t always accompany them. Here the role of police comes into picture; they must protect the children,” said Mirambika Nandi, a guardian.

Some anti-social youths are trapping teenage girls by pretending to have fallen in love with them and are entering into physical relationships at cyber cafes, parks and beauty parlours, secretly filming these acts and later sharing them on mobile phones, police said.

Police said investigations are on and action will be taken against the culprits.

“Police from its side will raid parks, beauty parlours, cyber cafes and any other places where police gets information of such activities going on. Stringent action as per provisions of the law will be taken against the offenders,” said Asit Panigrahi, IG (Eastern).
