Murder accused’s escape from police custody in Rayagada: 3 cops suspended

Rayagada: Three police personnel including IIC of the Kalyansinghpur Police Station in Rayagada district were suspended in connection with escape of a murder accused from the police custody.

Taking disciplinary action against the cops, Rayagada district police placed the IIC and two constables of Kalyansinghpur Police Station under suspension for dereliction of duty.

According to reports, Kalyansinghpur police had detained Damburu Pusika, a resident of Lama village, for interrogation into murder of his younger brother.

Allegedly, the accused escaped from the police station on December 30.

Sources said that he had murdered his 21-year-old brother Minduru Pusika with an axe on December 27 and threw the body near the place. Three days after the incident, Kalyansighpur police visited the village and recovered the body.

Reports said that the accused was to be produced before a local court on December 30. However, he managed to escape from police custody on the pretext of visiting a toilet.

Three days after his escape, the police failed to nab the accused.
