NTPC, Odisha PSU to set up power plant at Kamakshanagar

The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and the Odisha government today decided to go for a joint venture to set up a power plant at Kamakshanagar in Dhenkanal district.

The decision to set up the power plant at Kamakshanagar by NTPC and Odisha Thermal Power Corporation (OTPC) was taken at a meeting between chief minister Naveen Patnaik and NTPC Chairman and managing director Dr Arup Roychowdhury, who called on the former at the state secretariat here today.

OTPC is a joint venture of two of the leading state PSUs, namely Odisha Hydro Power Corporation Ltd (OHPC ) and Odisha Mining Corporation Ltd (OMC .

Chief minister Naveen Patnaik urged Dr Roychowdhury to speed up work on the state of the art medical college to be set up by NTPC in Sundargarh district.

The NTPC chairman and managing director accepted chief minister Naveen Patnaik’s proposal to build 70 model schools in the state and set up a world class Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Ganjam district, the home district of the chief minister.

It may be mentioned here that the state government, which is concerned over the quality of education and training in the state, has decided to have a model school in each block of the state based on the CBSE model.

Other development works of the thermal power major were also discussed at the meeting, which was attended by Energy minister Pranab Prakash Das, chief secretary GC Pati, development commissioner AP Padhi and several senior officials of the state government and NTPC.
